'AN OLD FASHIONED BREAKDOWN'

There is an article about Breakdowns in the 2018 Spring issue of BMG which mentions that this one by Joe Morley was published as late as 1929, and makes the point that, at that date, the genre was considered ‘old-fashioned’. There does not appear to be a definition of the term as used to describe these apparently simple banjo solos of the mid-nineteenth century onwards, but many examples exist, and are very useful, — especially for improving technique and sight-reading.  This solo may seem easy, but even advanced players may be surprised at how difficult it is to play it at sight, and at the correct tempo. It could be presented to a non-banjo playing audience by starting slowly and gradually increasing the tempo to the suggested crotchet to 180, — or even faster !
